Goal setting to become a dog trainer
We can learn a lot from this squirrel
I’m so lucky that my office window looks out onto the garden, but it can be very distracting. All day today I’ve been watching this squirrel. This squirrel, over the past 2 years has been costing me a fortune in fat balls, but this year his fat ball theft has become unmanageable.
I’ve tried everything. I didn’t really want to stop him completely, just reduce it down so the birds get a look in. I tried the idea of putting butter on the branch. That worked for a day or so but he soon worked around that one. I tried putting the feeder in ‘difficult to reach’ places, but still, he managed it. He was getting through a whole feeder of fat balls in an hour or so.
This week I decided it was time to invest in a ‘squirrel proof’ feeder and this morning I put it out for the birds. The squirrel soon came along ready for a feast. I’ve watched him all day, trying desperately to get the fat balls from the feeder. It’s not as if he’s hungry, he just really wants these fat balls.
He was not going to give up. Nothing was going to stop him and by 5pm this afternoon he’d achieved his aim. He’s not managing to get such big chunks, so I’m hoping it will at least slow him down, but he’s got what he wanted.
Mr. Squirrel set his goal and achieved it
He has worked so hard today. All day he has been back and for, struggling and working at it. He decided what he wanted and he wasn’t going to stop until he got it. If one thing didn’t work, he tried something else.
He was prepared to think outside the box. He was prepared to persevere until he found a way that worked.
Patience, hard work and determination got this squirrel what he wanted. He certainly didn’t let a manufacturer’s statement of, ‘Squirrel Proof’ stop him.
The thing is with humans, we allow things to get in our way. Look at me today, I was going to do so much, but I let a squirrel get in my way! That might impact on my income this month.
If you really want something you have to have a plan. Set goals. Work out a way to get what you want. Don’t let anything get in your way. Be resilient.
