An Important yet Difficult Life Choice
Career change is something, according to statistics by the London School of Business and Finance (2020), that 47% of the working population are thinking about. The pandemic made many of us evaluate our lives and that maybe why this statistic is so high in 2020.
How many of this 47% get to change their career? How many find a way forward? How many end up staying in their current career or work because they just can’t find a way out, or too many things stop them from taking the risk.
Why is it Important?
For some, career change is more important than for others. If you have lost your passion for your job and you now find it boring, it’s possibly less important than if your job is making you totally miserable.
Whatever your reason, your work affects your life. If your unhappy in your work, your free time is often spent thinking about it and not looking forward to the next day you have to return to work.
Work provides us with passion, a purpose. It helps to make us who we are.
It affects those you live with
Maybe you feel changing career is not possible or too risky because you have people who depend on you. Maybe you feel the risk is too great because you will lose too many benefits or it will affect your pension. Think about how you are when you come home from work. Are you a pleasure to be around?
Is your work not only making you miserable but maybe making your family and friends miserable too?
How to Change Career
How to go about career change can be the first stumbling block.
- What sort of job do you want to do?
- Can you retrain at your age – anybody over 30 can feel like this?
- Can you run your own business – do you want to run your own business?
You know, if you make the jump, that it has to work. You can’t imagine doing this twice in your working lifetime.
It is possible to start a new career without taking the massive risk of leaving a secure job. There are many jobs that you can do working part-time, starting by working alongside your current job.
Maybe you can reduce your hours in your current job to allow you to start a new career or training for a new career.
