How this Course Saved Deefer's Life - Zoe and Deefer's Story

We started week 1 training today. Spent about half an hour over two sessions this afternoon of learning ‘Come’ calling him between different rooms.

For the very first time we tried it, just now as we walked, restricted, on a 5m lead in the park and he responded really well.

The training has already been worth its weight in gold. As we were heading back, there is a path up a hill which he knows leads home and he charges up it. He is new to us and headstrong when heading for home as he sees home as his safe place.

He took off but my daughter dropped the lead, he ran full pelt up the hill chasing towards people at the top where there is a road and he knows the route home which is about 1 minute from there, crossing over two roads.

I yelled ‘Deefer come’ and he immediately turned and charged full on back to me. Had we not started this training today I am in no doubt whatsoever that he would have attempted to run home without us. It quite literally may have saved his life tonight.

What others have to say

We are taking a bit longer than the six weeks to work through the videos – are they still going to be available to us after six weeks have elapsed? We are loving them, finding it so helpful!

- Karen

So proud of Rosie. I accidentally dropped bacon on the floor and did not realise straight away what had happened. She didn’t try to grab it but sat waiting. Then I cut a bit off and put it in her bowl. Told her to wait (more so it had a chance to cool down), left the room and then came back to find she still had not touched it, until I told her she could have it after she looked at me.

That was brilliant.

Thank you so much.

We've had Mable about six weeks so there are a couple of things we need
to re/un-learn but this is excellent really explicit and will be invaluable.
