About Us
Things you may not know about us
Lots of things quietly go on in the background of any business or organisation, but we feel it’s important for you to understand who we are and what our values are.
You may already know that I (Sandra) was a nurse, but most of my earlier career was spent teaching and training volunteers, health and social care professionals in Dementia, Huntington’s Disease and Stroke. This type of work remains very dear to me but this time also made me aware of the value of dogs. Dogs add great value to any of us that are dog lovers, but in particular to people with disability of any form, or people who are just not coping so well with life. Let’s face it, life at the moment is taking some dealing with.
My team and I just feel so lucky every day that we get to spend time around dogs and help people to have fun with their dogs.
In the past we have done work with people with Autism and Learning Difficulties and pre-Covid, we used to love going around to nursing homes and putting on an agility display, followed by the residents having some time with the dogs. We are really keen to get back to this, so if you know of any nursing homes near us, that would like a display (it can be done all outdoors), please let us know.
We love the work that we do to benefit people and dogs so we focus our charitable efforts on two particular charities. This is Capable Creatures, who offer support and training for people whose dog is an emotional support dog, and Street Vet.
Anything can happen to any one of us at any time, causing us to have a need for such support. Capable Creatures is a local charity and we support the training of their volunteers. Street Vet is an amazing charity, set up by a great lady, delivering free veterinary treatment to dogs that are on the streets with their homeless owners.
Many people who are homeless and own a dog, struggle to find a new home or a hostel. Nobody wants to give up their dog. Can you imagine being in a position where you have to choose to keep your dog or have a roof over your head?
Street Vet has worked so hard at getting hostels to accept dogs and we are now working with them on a dog training programme for people in hostels so landlords might be more willing to offer permanent accomodation to dog owners in hostels.
If you would like to know more about either of these projects do just ask. If you would like to support us in our support of Street Vet, you can make a cash donation in the office, which we will then use to purchase products from their wish list on Amazon, or you can do this directly through Amazon.
